Can I substituted dark rum for light rum in a cake recipe?

I'm making a cake and the recipe calls for 1/2c of light rum. I only have dark rum at home. Can I just use the dark rum instead? Do I use the same amount?Can I substituted dark rum for light rum in a cake recipe?
